keep the 360 or....

iv got a 70 f250 with a 360 is that a good platform or should i save my penny's and slide a ford racing 514 in it i want to build a street strip truck the strip ill be spending most of my time in is 1/8 mile. also what gears would be better 3;73 or 3;90's? any help would be great

If you want a street/strip truck the 514 is definitely the way to go. With the 514, I would use the 3.73 gears. If you keep the 360, I would use the 3.90 gears. I am sure there are lots of opinions on your question.

You are going to be saving a lot of pennies for a 514. It takes a lot more than an engine to build a street/strip machine. I've got a well built 390 in a 68 F100 2wd. It runs on Methanol and the truck is built to match the motor. I need to find a tranny tough enough to hold it though.

This truck is a manual though... I don't want to switch it to an auto. I have a TCI Sizzler C6 in my mud truck and it has held up very well.

Kalispell is nice country. I've only been up that way a few times, its like an 8 hour drive from here though. Next summer a few buddies and I are going to ride our bikes up to Glacier and the surrounding area.

yea but you could drop a few .000,s off your time not sure what gearing your running but ur running a 1/4 right? 3500 stall with a trans break might be the answer to you question and throw a ratchet shifter on it and thier ya go noone can shift as fast as an auto with a shift kit wow cant beat it

True on the auto... they are quick. Most of the guys run a manual valve body auto (Powerglide or Torqueflite or C4) and its true that if I was running in a class I would lose to an auto, but its all bracket racing for me, and I do pretty well.
