CD Player
Radio still worked, but CD showed: CD ERROR
The Ford dealer recommended to go thru an aftermarket vendor, as the dealer will whack you with about $ 800 for the OEM radio... ridiculous!
I have the factory rear-entertainment w/ DVD installed, and it's a pain in the rear to find a replacement unit which matches and which will keep your factory functions on the steering wheel and head unit.
I purchased a BRAND-NEW unit with a full year warranty from radiosandmore.com. Great guys, really helpful. Instead of a '03 radio model I purchased the '06 model for $ 475.00 incl. S & H.
The radio arrived within a few days and works great! Finally I can use my CD player again.
If you have a rear-entertainment system (factory), you most likely are looking for the follwing model: 2C7T-18C815-AA
Keep in mind that the FIRST digit is the model year and can be replaced with any other year, as long as the rest of the model is EXACTLY the same.
I got the 6C7T-18C815-AA.
Installation is simple, as the new radio comes read to plug into the truck harness. I made it easy and went to AutoZone to get me a radio tool. Simply insert the tool in the two holes on the front of the radio on each side, push outwards and pull the radio.
Unplug the two harnesses from the back of the unit and the speaker wire, plug the new radio in and push it back on the rail until it fastens securely.
Done!
I highly recommend Radios & More... they were great and are the ONLY company which offers brand-new units (vs. refurbished units) with a full one-year warranty (others only offer 30 days or so).
Hope that helps.
Oh... almost forgot...
As to the CD's in your old player: As I knew I would throw out the old unit anyways, I started disassembling the old radio. Only need a small phillips screwdriver and starting unscrewing until I could reach the 6 CD compartment. I plied it open and removed the CD's... worked fine, and I was able to secure and save all 6 CD's.
Have fun...
Andy
I just usually try to get the slot open 'cuz what's happening is that the CD kinda jams in there and with the slot open,I can gently slide a piece of thin cardboard, like from a coke carton, into it and push on the cd and most of the time it'll come out...
