Help for a friend

I'm a 6.0 guy so I don't know enough to help my friend out. He has a 1999 F-350 7.3L. He bought a Superchips 1705?, I think it was. He's also removed the muffler. That's all he's done so far. The truck had 150,000 miles on it. He's got three questions:

1. It's only had general maintenace such as lube oil & filter etc. Is there any maitenance that should be done such as valve adjustments or anything?

2. Is the Superchips Tuner a decent tuner or should he go with something else? He does tow.

3. Is there a better intake that would help the performance?

Thank guys!

Yes a tymar intake(aka 6637, kwik filter, BHAF) would be a cheap fix for the ford factory leaky air box. There is also the AIS intake. The difference between the tymar and AIS is the tymar you will hear drone. For the tuner question, DP tuners tune are the best, by what ive heard and soon well feel. For maintence, do the ccv mod to get the oil out of the intercooler tubes, then clean the intercooler tubes and boots to get the oil out of them. change all fluids and filters. Do the hutch and harpoon mods, and then it will be much better truck.

#1 Nope. General maintenance will be good for many hundreds of thousands of miles.

#2 Yes. The Superchips tuner isn't all that powerfull in the 7.3, but the programs are excellent for towing.

#3 Yes. Every single aftermarket intake in existance is superior to the stock leaking crap. The AFE, AIS, and homemade version using a NAPA 6637 filter are the most popular intake mods.

Oh...and tell him to pick up a spare camshaft position sensor to carry with him in the glove box.

I don't see how that would even be possible without altering the length of the pushrods.

I really like the AFE stage two intakes, and I love the Edge with the Attitude monitor. It makes a huge difference in the truck performance. The CCV mod is a good one to do. The only other thing would be to make sure you have good fluids through out the truck.

That's what I thought too. The rocker assemblies are simply pedastals bolted to the head with hydraulic lifters.

General maintance is about all the is required. Using the proper oil is critical.

2. Is the Superchips Tuner a decent tuner or should he go with something else? He does tow.
That is what I have now, it is decent and good to read trouble codes. I would strongly recommend gauges if using the tuner and towing. It is enough power enhancement to burn something up. I do plan on a DP-Tuner upgrade soon, but will keep my superchip just to read codes.

3. Is there a better intake that would help the performance?
Yes, as stated, almost anything over stock is better.

Thanks so much guys!! I printed out this manual and delivered it to him. I've been trying to get him to join here, but I don't think he's real computer literate. Or he's just lazy and knows he can call me and I'll look into it for him. lol

About the valve's question. I'm still new to the diesel world. I didn't know. Now I do. Heck, mine's only got 20,000 miles on it.
