Anyone have a squeaking noise sounding like a belt slipping at shutdown. When I shut down my '06 6.0 with 15k miles down, particularly when its hot, I get this sound. When the motor is cold, it doesn't do it. Serpentine belt, turbo, other?
Mine does it too. They don't coast down nicely to a stop, that's all. What happens is that the engine will deadroll to a stop and then back up a bit, and of course your serpentine auto tensioner can't hold it down quite as well when the engine runs backwards so you get the little squeak. It's nothing to worry about.
mine does it also, but does anyone know why some trucks do it and others dont. My buddies 07 can be shutdown after running it hard and there isnt a sound at all. Thanks cowboy brett. I can finally put my worries to rest. It just sounds awful
Actually it can be two things.. Most case if your experiencing it every now and then.. It's the sudden lost of oil pressure to the Turbo.. Causes it slide and do a metal squeak.. Mine does it when its hot and I shut her down.. Matt and I have been over it 100 times and finally figured it out..
Lastest is a metal click on D/S engine bay.. Can't locate it but at idle you can hear it.. Almost like a metal tag clicking on something.. Everything ECM wise shows normal.. No damage to the block.. Just an odd clicking..
My truck does it too...or it did until I thought of something. I noticed it mostly when shutting the truck down with the A/C on which does put a little more tension on the belt and the other tensioners. So now I shut off my A/C about 1/2 a mile before getting home and I never have that serpentine sound anymore. Also, after a long trip, I'll let the truck cool down for a couple of minutes and I've never had an odd sound, even after having the AC on for 8 straight hours (the wife demands it driving through the Mojave desert, I don't get it).
It may not solve all your problems, but it sure helped resolve mine while shutting it down. Give it a shot.
