Every other start has become troublesome. It fires up strong then almost dies, stumbles then idles & runs fine. Occasionally it takes three tries before it fires up. Piston slap, no check engine lights, no other problems.
I was thinking that it might be a fuel pump going bad? Any experience/suggestions?
Mine did the same thing several months back. It turned out to be the AIC valve. It is a small silver cylinder mounted on the throttle body. Remove the screws and clean up the ports with some carb cleaner. Works great. I have heard of some people having to replace theirs.

Got 45k on mine and I had to replace my IAC valve also.
She would not idle at all. I was on vacation with My RV hooked to the back. Had to go to Ford dealer next day. They charged me $266 bucks to replace it. My extended warrenty covered it. They said "the check is in the mail"
