Could it be the air screamin' through the updated crappy Y-pipe?

It only makes the noise at the shift?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Nov-02 AT 11:14 AM (EST)]When I am accelerating at WOT I hear a noise when the tranny shifts gears. The noise sounds like a sudden discharge of pressurized air (like an air dryer on an air compressor system). I don't run it like that too often but I always assumed it was normal. See my truck description below.

if you are really winding it out @5500 rpms the rev limiter will kick
in and it sounds like kinda like you describe.

You might wanna try [link://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/DCForumID117/3306.html|Topic 3306]. I had a similar sound and I tracked it down to the belt like many others.
