I have a 2005 FX4 Ext Cab/26000 miles-original tires. I am going to replace them with Bridgestone Dueler Revos. The 265 70 17's are $691 with tax; the 285's are $733. Will the 285 fit without leveling. Will my speedometer change ? Would I be better off with the 265's ?
Well on the way back from dropping my son and daughter off at Campbell Univ. tonight the back left 255 General tire blew out (26000 miles). I did'nt run over anything. A 3 inch gash appeared on the sidewall. Doing the whole tire changing deal with what Ford gives you is a trip. I'll be much more after market prepared the next time.(like a better jack set-up). I guess I'll be buying those Revo's sooner than I thought. How much difference will 285 17's make on my speedometer over the stock 255's ? Gas mileage ? I get about 14.5 mpg now riding around town.

I changed my 255 70 17 General Americraps over to 275 70 17's and my speedo is out about 3%, so a 285 would be a lil more than that.
My Generals were in "like new" condition when I got rid of them with very low mileage, but I at least got a trade-in for them.
You wouldn't want to run the smaller spare on the rear for any real distance with the limited slip diff since the clutches will be slipping the whole time just rolling straight down the road.
Has anyone put a set of Revo's on a 18 inch rim? I've got stock 18's on my '04 Lariat. I think the stock tire size is 275/65/R18. I haven't been able to find a local dealer selling this size, looking for a good online dealer...
That's what I had the dealer put on mine before it left the lot, 276/65-R18's. They got them through their normal distributor in Denver, whoever that is.
Discount Tire will basically match the best price you can find online (sometimes grudgingly depending on the salesperson), but their everyday price was almost even with what I could do from Tire Rack by the time you figure the outrageous shipping on those heavy tires.
I'd suggest pricing tires at some of the Ford dealers in Denver for the heck of it. They sell tires for a pretty low margin some times it seems.
