thats ridiculous, you 05 ford truck has a similar problem, and Ford still hasnt found a fix for it. Sometimes you just wonder how things like this get through quality control.
Our 07 Limited has done this constantly for 5 months. I usually run the AC in AUTO mode and the fan will suddenly stop blowing altogether, maybe when it reaches the desired temperature. THe problem is, it won't come back on even when I lower the temp all the way down. Switching to MANUAL mode and selecting a lower temp doesn't bring the fan back on either. Infact, when I switch to MANUAL mode and push the +FAN button, the fan speed actually slows down. push the -FAN button and it speeds up.
Dealer tried to lecture and give me a lesson on how to use the climate control system. After the tech realized that I knew as much as he did, he recommended to replace the dash control module. They replaced the dash control unit and it still does it. I haven't considered the cell phone or charger plugged in issue. Someimtes I have a charger plugged in. I'll have to see if there is any correlation. DOes anyone have any more details on this? Thanks. Toyota bought back our lemon 06 Avalon and we bought the Expy. I don't need to go through that again.
My AC seems to work ok, so far, but I only have 1050 miles on my 07.
In any case several other people on this site are having problems with their AC systems.
Look in the owners manual, this is how it has been working, for me any way.
If it don't work this way, then something is wrong no matter what the dealer says.
Sad to say that some dealer service departments will tell you anything to get you to go away. Lots of talk, but little action. I would find a different dealer and see what they do about it.
This cell phone charger thing has come up here before and I think this just makes no sense. If you can't use your cell phone charger on a $45,000 SUV then I say that SUV is junk.
Other drivers seem to use their cell phone chargers all the time with out problems.
In June I went from Florida to Colorado in a rental 07 Chevy Trailblazer with my cell phone plugged in and used my cell phone to communicate all the way and never had a problem with the AC or anything else.
Anyway the - button should lower the fan speed, not raise it. Mine does, well so far anyway and I leave my cell phone charger plugged in all the time.
Well mine did it again. Was driving for about 20 minutes. I could set the ac to manual and get a small amount of air to come out even with the fan setting on high. I stopped at a light, turned the car off and on, and it worked. I will bring this up to the dealer when I get my brakes fixed.
I have an 07 Limited and I too have had the AC problems I've read about in this thread. The first time it happened we were in the middle of a long trip and it started blowing puffs of hot air and then it shutdown completely. I think it started working again when we stopped and turned off the engine. After that incident, it never happened again until last week when it did the puff thing and shutdown. I called the dealership and they were completely unaware of this being an issue with the 07 Expedition. I'm planning to take it in to get this issue recorded but based on what I've read here I'm not very optimistic of getting this problem fixed anytime soon. JB
I finally talked to a tech that seemed to know what he was talking about. He said their dealership has seen some of these problems and that it has been happening for a couple of years (so, no, this is not new to Ford). It happens on the automatic temp units on several lines of Fords (Explorer, Expy, Trucks).
He said for the first year that Ford told them to unplug the control module and then plug it back in. That worked for a period of time, but then they would come back to the dealer again. He said that Ford then began to tell them to replace the entire control module and that for them, that seems to have fixed it. However, I see from this post that it didn't work for everyone.
The tech said that these automatic a/c units do this randomly and that it is a sign that the control module is in early stages of failure. He offered to replace my modules on both trucks, which I am going to have him do.
Note: This problem is not that the fan goes to a lower speed - that's supposed to happen in the automatic mode once temperature has been reached. This is a complete shut down of the fan, or in the case of my 05 F250, a complete shut down of the entire dash area of the climate control.
I wa sat the dealership today for an oil change and mentioned to the tech that the car had experienced this problem. I explained that I had read comments from a number of owners that were having the same issue. His response was "Well first off, you can't believe everything you read on the internet." Boy did that tick me off! I told him "I don't believe everything I read but when many people who own thr same car as me describe the exact same problem that I have.....I tend to believe its a systemic issue." I going to have them look at it Monday but with that attitude I'm not expecting very much.
Any more updates on this issue? I'm going for 10k service tomorrow and don't really know what to tell the dealer regarding the ongoing AC issue.
Phone charger doesn't seem to be the culprit. Basically, mine seems to shut down when in AUTO mode and the temp reaches the selected temp. Lowering the temp doesn't make it adjust and going to MANUAL mode doesn't give me any control over the unit.

Yep, thats the same problem we are all having. When it does it, pull over, turn the car off and on, this should clear the AC control module and it should start working again. It's like it goes into fail safe mode or the blue screen of death.
I'm still going through the same issues. My a/c blower gave out at least twice during these past couple of weeks. My Ford dealership told me that unless they are told by Ford to replace a module, motor or whatever, then they will change it. Otherwise they say if they are asked by the customer to replace a certain part, then it will void the warranty, plus WE are stuck with the bill! This makes no sense to me. I don't know what else to do, other than hope to God the a/c gives out completely.

Is that the dealer you bought it from? If you can't get a response from your service guy, go to the manager, then the manager of the dealer. Keep working your way up. Also, call the Ford customer service line.
No, actually the dealer I bought it from is in New Mexico. I havent taken it there due to the fact it is too far. But, I considering taking it there soon and maybe they can solve this problem. You know the number to the Ford customer service line?
I posted this in my A/C issues thread, but my dealer replaced my "heater blower module" this morning in about ten minutes. There IS a service instruction out there for "erratic blower" issues - I saw and read it. It basically tells them to check the grounds on the module and if they look OK to replace the module. The service manager told me that these have been problamatic enough that they now keep one of these modules in stock.
Your dealer gave you a line of crap - don't use them anymore.
