3 on the tree manual problems
I just got a 70 f100 with a 3 on the tree manual.The guy I bought it from says it sometimes jumps out of gear on the column.I check the column and it is loose is heck.It feels like the shifter isn't even grabbing the linkages.I'm wondering is it simpler and cheaper to fix it or try to convert it to a floor shift.Any ideas?

I would not convert it to a floor shift without trying everything in the column first. Just my opinion. I do want to comment on the three speed. I bought a parts truck and had to drive it about 400 miles home. It had a three speed. I was really impressed with the gearing of it. First gear was low enough to start smoothly, second gear hit just right, and third was perfect for highway speeds of about 65- 70 mph. My t-18 and np235 (both four speeds) are not as smooth. I really think differently about these three speed transmissions now.
