Hypothetically....

If I ran Level III on the Edge Tuner, which is designed for premium fuel from what I understand, with 100 octane E85......what harm COULD?? it do?

Im not smart on the inner workings of the tuner....

thanks

I was wondering that also. I know you are not supposed to run let's say 87 octane on the 91 or 93 settings of the tuner. But I have read that it wouldn't hurt anything running the higher octane on the lower setting. I hope someone like Mike Troyer chimes in with his 2 cents. Just something interesting to know.

It will cause early detonation. You will hear it as pinging. The higher octane prevents this. It is all caused by the timming change made by the programmer. It can and will hurt you engine if you run it like for long.

On level III you only need 91 Octaine. Running a higher octaine should not hurt anything.

My bad, I didn't realize you were going to use higher octane. I didn't read the post correct. As long as you don't run lower octane, you will be ok.

So, is the Level III program for 91 and above octane or is it designed for 91 octane only?

It is designed for 91 octane or higher -- you can cause damage to the engine if you drive it long term with lower then 91 octane.

I can run 100 octane E85 fuel with the Edge Level III tune without harming the engine?

Well I ran the program last night after filling up for 2.29 a gallon/E85. Thats the first time I've ran the Level III and its a pretty good time. Although after going 20 miles or so I can see how the shifts are setup that the program doesnt have much fuel economy in mind. So after reading the manual, I think Im going to back it down to Level II. It says its designed for 87, but said I could see some better performance with a higher octane fuel. We shall see....Ill post again when I try it out!

I have had mine on level III since the day I got it. Between the programer and the dual exhaust, my mileage has actually improved by about 2mpg.
