I am in Pigeon Forge, TN on vacation, 300 miles from home and I have a 2004 F250 w/6.0 stock with 49,000 miles. I noticed it started today surging while driving, and while in park or stopped at a stoplight, the rpm's would rise from 700 to 1100, and almost jump over the car in front of me, and then it will also drop below 500 and almost die (rough idle), it does this whether the egr is unplugged or plugged in. It does not do it when the rpms are above 1200. The wiring harness, and EBP sensor were replaced back in 2005. I called the dealer in Servierville and explained to him that I was on vacation and 300 miles from home, and needed them to look at it and tell me how long it would take to replace the ICP. Well he stated that he would not be able to look at it untill next week. WOW what customer service, does anybody know how long it will run like that, or how long has anybody ran thier truck like this?
Thanks for the help.
Ron
PS: has anyone replaced the ICP thierself, and how long did it take?? I do not have all of my tools with me so hopefuly I will make it back home.
I thought the ICP was located near the turbo inlet pipes or under the FICM as per the 6.0 bible and a Ford manchanic , but now I see a picture that shows it is located on top of the right valve cover next to the glow plug control module. It has the same color wires on the connector, 3 purple wires, and well there it is. So I could have changed the unit this afternoon, hope the Ford dealer has one in the morning when we leave.
On an early 04 the icp is under the turbo at the rear of the engine. On late04 its on top of the valve cover. If its under the turbo you can replace fron under the truck by removing a heat shield held on with 3 bolts. Its a pain to get at but you could do it yourself in an hour.Prepare to swear at the moron that put a sensor in such stupid spot.
My truck was made 02/04, but as per the picture and description below (looks just like mine) it is located on the right valve cover. I have looked under the turbo but I do not see it. I will go back out and look again, its the pits not having my tools while on vacation.
Thanks
Quote: The ICP (Injection Control Pressure) sensor and the harness connector. This is the final appearance after the connector has been replaced. Note that all three wires in the connector are purple which makes it easy to identify the repair has been made. This sensor and connector are easy to locate on the right valve cover just behind the glow plug control module. The ICP sensor connector replacement is only performed on certain vehicles as identified above.

As you stated and many other types of info states that early 04's were under the turbo and late 04's were on the valve cover. But mine was made in 02/04, I guess 08/03 thru 12/03 or 01/04 were considered early. I am very lucky that the unit is located on the valve cover.
Ding Dang $105.00 for the ICP sensor??? I was going to get two, one to install and one for the road.
I wonder if it was to be replace when they did the wiring harness replacement, I was simular problem two years ago while I was at Pigeon Forge TN, and took it to the dealer back home. They kept it for two days to the replace the harness and the EBP sensor.
Thanks for the help, this makes me feel alot better on replacing it in the morning.
