Long crank when cold

I have a 04 F350 with a 6.0 that has long crank when cold,ouside temperature is about 100 degrees.

It will crank a long time maybe a couple of times then it starts.

Once it starts it seems to lack power at low RPMs.
But once it warms up,it runs a lot better and then it starts fine everytime once it is warm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am assuming that you let your glow plug light go off. As far as your power loss is concerned mine is the same way for the forst acceleration out of the driveway then it is fine. Diesel becomes more efficient as the temp rises. Mine also cranks for a second but I believe that is normal. I am sure someone will chime in on the long starts.

Could be high presure oil pump seals. From what I understand this is getting common. Good luck. Mike

If it is the HPOP seals, it usually only happens after the engine has been brought to operating temperature, shutdown, then restarted while the oil is still hot. It would start normally when the engine temp is cold. Since you mention it starts normally when the engine is hot, I would look towards the glow plugs or glow plug module. But, I'm not a tech so there could be other areas to concentrate on that I haven't thought of.
