Ok, I'm not ready for the darkside quite yet... I want to stay stock in my 53 resto... BUT I am considering headers...
Anyone have any input on headers for a flathead?
I've seen them in the Mid Fifty catalog...
I'd second Red's Headers. They fit like a glove on my '50. The only problem is I got the ceramic coating, and since the engine and body is repainted yet they stick out like a sore thumb.
A third for Red's! THEY FIT!! Fentons were never made for the trucks, AFAIK. I tried mightily to make a set fit mine, but it would require relocating the steering box. Gave up and bought Red's, including the extensions that also fit like a glove and were well worth a few extra bucks. Also got a set of Smithy's from him, all together it makes for a S-W-E-E-T sound!

Tell that to all the owners that I've seen use them on their trucks w/ Flatheads in them.
Yet another vote for Reds Headers...quality workmanship and they fit. The owner is very knowledgeable as well and my dealings with them have been very pleasant.
Sorry to hijack this thread but...
I want to put a set of Reds Headers on my 53 M350/Flat Head V8 just to get away from the cracking stock manifolds.
I was told that there could be a problem with steering gear box interference but that it probably would work. Anyone have any knowledge on this?
I've thought their (Red's) website was not very 'user friendly'... I emailed them and they said they had headers to fit and I should check out their website... which I had already done... both the DOT COM and the DOT NET..?????
Call them and tell them exactly what you need.
My 49 sedan has less than an inch to clear the steering box. I bought a set of catalog cheepo headers and they turned right into the box. The whole section of the header was bent wrong. Company said we dont take headers back, so I was SOL.
Called Reds told them my deal. They guaranteed my fit or money back as long as they were never bolted up just eyeballed. They fit like a glove.
It will be worth a try, great to hear good things about Reds Headers, makes it easier to trust them with my money. There is a stocking dealer here in Saskatoon.
I see from their site they have Y-Block headers too.
