I say go with the Excursion! Had a pick up, but once you have all that interior space, you won't want to give it up. At least I didn't. Besides, if you don't get an Excursion now, you might not be able to later. They will always be making SD Trucks.

Love that hitch buddy too!! Very cool!

As many others have said in various places on here, the stiffer F350 springs wont necessarily add capacity. There are a lot of factors that go into load carrying and towing capacities.

I've got both an '05 Ex and an '04 SD CC LB... the Ex gets driven far more and is a lot more convenient for me than the pickup. 8 times out of 10, I pull the 30' travel trailer with the Ex. Just works better for the "family" (3 big dogs).

I'd say that unless you really have a need to haul things or a burning desire to buy a 5th wheel, then the Ex would make a lot more sense for you.

Good luck!
Mike

The Excursion is built up on the F250 regular cab frame right? Both are 137" wheelbases. Other than wheels/tires/shocks what would be another contributing factor to upping the tow capacity?

I haven't said anything to the wife yet, but it looks like I'm going to side on an excursion diesel. I've had a Ford Expedition and yes the interior space is very appealing. It's just that I like the gosh darn look of the F350 crew cab! It's like the king of the road. The thing that I really miss about a big SUV/Truck is the respect it DEMANDS, not asks for, DEMANDS! I used to be able to change lanes by hitting the turn signal, getting eye contact with the person next to me (sometimes not), and just moving over, they have NO choice but to slow or move over. With my wife's MDX (which we are trading in), I don't get that same respect. I hit my turn signal to change lanes and they maintain speed to PREVENT me from changing lanes and when I force the lane change they don't budge! Very frustrating.

Axle ratings, hitch ratings (some Ex's have a 1000# and others a 1250# hitch), gear ratio, just to name a few. The fact that the Ex weighs a lot more just sitting there also limits its capabilities compared to a lighter Super Duty.
