differential help

hey, im kinda new to differentials and have a couple questions about putting limited slip in my 00 f150 5.4. im hoping to do this cheaply. i was thinkin about getting some old stock ones from a junkyard and just replace the clutch packs or however fords stock ones are. and could i use my old gears too? is it hard to change out the front one? is it the same as the back?thanks, seth

Being new to setting up differentials is not a good thing, if it was mine to do I would go to the junkyard and find a complete rear that has the same ratio and the limited slip already in it. Setting up a rear isn't much fun when you can take out the center section, and these don't come out anymore. Everything has to be set in the truck and there are special gauges to do this.

yeah i would just pick up a limited slip off ebay($150)...and take your axle out of your truck...(takes 20 minutes to drop an axle)...load it up and take it to the dealer....i took my axle...used limited slip and and a new 3:55 gear set to ford dealer...charged me $230 to get it all put in and the bluuing pattern set and everything....smooth as a whistle now.
