Question `04 or `05 6.0 engine?

Does anyone know if my `05 6.0 Excursion engine is an `04 or `05?
Producton date is Jan 19th, pulled up T/YB on legnthy oasis report. I`m afraid its an `04, which would explain its many, many problems. Just wanted to know for sure. Can`t check on vehicle due to it being towed this morning on flatbed to dealer again due to same sputtering and stalling issues. Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Don

The only way I know of is to look on the engine left side tappet cover at the tag which is difficult to look at.

Thanks for the info. But I was afraid that was the case, since my vehicle is in shop and will probably be there for a while. WAY TO MANY problems with only 345000 miles on it. I thought a diesel is just getting broke in at that milage?

Was your post really suppose to read with 6 figures on the mileage? I'm assuming that you either meant 34,500, or you were kidding and I didn't catch it?

Your engine is guaranteed to be an '04 engine because the Xs never got the updated engines. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Granted it's not so bad, but the 03s and 04s were definitely more problematic then the later versions. Mine has run fine except for the EGR problems, injector problems and head gaskets

The engine is strong it's just the stuff attached to it has been a little finicky.

Thanks for the info guys! I just thought that when you buy an`05 vehicle or whatever, thats what you paid for. Not last years this or that! And I only wish I was as lucky as you. Mines been in the shop for 71 days and still counting! Ford has replaced 28 parts on motor from everything like turbo, EGR cooler, wire harness, head gaskets, oil cooler, bed plate gasket, sensors, etc., and still cant figure it out.

This raises concern that they do not have a Certified 6.0 Technician diagnosing the problem(s) but are throwing the more common 'issue' parts at it to solve the problem(s).

You may want to consider a different service department. I would also recommend posting your VIN in the OASIS sticky thread at the top of this forum for some insight into what they are doing. Proper diagnostics does not typically take 71+ days.

ERR Wrong! The 2005 X's that were Job#2 builds starting in mid to late 1/2005 have the 2005 MY engine. Mine which was built on 2/08/05 has the 2005 engine. There are several changes that were made to the exterior of these engines and mine and several others I have talked to have them.

You are absolutely correct sir. I failed to

The document I was reading stated specifically in the text that Excursions carryover the 2004 MY engine for the first part of the 2005 MY; however the table I got my original info from did not make that differentiation.

I apologize for incorrectly stating that all 2005 MY Excursions had a 2004 MY engine.
