Question Day Time Running Lights

Just bought an '08 Superduty in US, but I'm temporarly assigned to a posting in Canada. The new truck must have Daytime Running Lights (DRL) to be legal. Based on the research I've done on this truck, it looks like it might be as simple as toggling the DRL option in the SJB (GEM) to [ENABLED]<ENABLED>. Can anyone confirm this?

Why is this function not standard? My 5 year old Chevy had it from day one.

From what I understand, you need to purchase a DLR kit from your dealer. It has a relay that needs to be installed to make the DLRs work.

I heard it is a lot more than a relay. I heard that it involves a pile of splicing into the wiring harness.

I'd like to have DRLs but not if i have to do all that. And you know you can't trust the dealer to do it right. They'll most likely use vampire taps and not wire it in securely.

I just over road the eye on the dash so the lights are always on when the key is on.

It is as simple as popping up the tinted little plastic dome on the center of your dash and unpluging it. Then leave you headlight switch to auto. They will always come on when the truck is running.

I would think that if your truck is registered in the US you wouldn't have to have DRL, even though you are traveling in Canada. My dad goes to Canada every spring to go fishing and they've never had an issue. If you do really want them though, I think the other guys have you covered.
