uhhh distributor question??

uhhh distributor question??

I have an 82 f150 with a 302 4x4 and my distributor isnt working correctly... the vacum advance is all messed up and in looking for a new 1 i ran into a problem... they say there is 2 diff distributors for my engine either steel or cast iron gear and they say they arn't interchangable... i kno sometimes they dont kno what they are talking about at the part stores but this i have no clue about either... how can I tell which I need or does it matter?

the difference is for the type of material the gear on the cam is made of........ i could be wrong, but, stock non roller cam needs cast dist. gear and roller cam needs steel dist. gear or vice versa ?

Yes, the roller cam has to have the steel gear. I had to change that when i put the newer roller 302 in my 84. Yours would not have the roller cam so you would need the cast gear.
