I have been trying to find info on replacing my 200O Expedition alternator. Looks straight forward , but not really any clearance to get a socket on the two lower bolts that hold it on. One bolt looks like the center water pump pulley needs to be removed to get tool in there? DO I need to remove the belt too, and first? Any suggestions welcome . I coulnd find any other help -manual ect on line , Thanks Dave
1. Disconnect positive from battery
2. Remove belt from alternator pulley only
3. Disconnect wire harness and wire under nut (both are behind alternator and at top)
4. Remove alternator retaining bolts
5. Install new 130 amp alternator
6. Reverse steps three back to one
7. Voltage should read 14.2 - 14.4 or there abouts
It is VERY easy to replace the alternator and VERY straight-forward as kailor's post details. If your belt is original, now would be a good time to replace.
Ok, thanks to you guys I got up the confidence to remove it. Yep it came out in about 15 minutes, was really surprised! I will save the belt as a spare and put a new one on vehicle. Now to suck it up for 160 bucks for new alternator. I heard of others getting thiers rebuilt, cant find a shop willing to do small repairs. They just want to replace alt and charge $450.00 parts and labor !!!
