Hi I am new to this message board and am not sure if this has come up before but What size tires will fit on my 97 F150 4x4? It has the triton V8 and 5 speed. The stock tires look tiny and I want to go as big as posible with out rubbing or neeeding a lift. I will probably go with a semi aggressive tread Like BFG AT or something like that. Thanks,
This subject has been the root of many discussions here. I've read that some folks claim they are running 305/75-16's without rubbing or lifts...others claim 285/75-16's are as big as you can safely go.
What I can tell you for sure is that I just put 265/75-16's on my 97 F-150 4x4. I went with Michelin LTX A/T's. They fill the wheel wells better than the puny stock tires, and they only reduce the gear ratio by about 5%, so the truck is still very driveable. If you go too big, you'll end up spending big $$ on taller gears to regain you acceleration.
Hi, I have a '97 F150 4X4 extended cab and my tires are 265x75R17 and I have no rub issues or problems other than the cost of the tires which is about $115 apiece at Sams Club.
I am guessing that you have the 16 inch wheels if you do there are a couple of options. They are 265/75-16 and (BFG AT just out) 275/75-16 would be that max. Now I know that you can probably squeeze 285/75-16 or maybe 305/70-16's but they will rub given that right conditions. I would also look at the spec's of the tires your a looking at just because the size is 265/75-16 does not necessary mean that Outside diameter and width is the same it varies from brand to brand as much as a few inches based on tread depth.
My favorites are:
(Cooper ST 265/65-16) http://www.coopertire.com (less expensive than BFG AT's)
(Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip 265/75-16) http://www.dirtgriptires.com (same price more aggressive than BFG AT's)
