Hello Everyone,
I'm new here so bear with me.I have a 1978 F-150 4x4 that I show.It has a 73-77 power steering pump on it which came with the truckThe line coming off the back is crimped and almost touching the header.I've purchased a correct pump and need to know what parts are needed to make the conversion and what parts are interchangable.(hoses-mounting brackets-etc) Also,It's been eating steering boxes.It only has a 3" lift and 36" Thornbirds.It is street driven only.I just installed the third steering box in 4000 mi.I love my truck but I'm ready to divorce it.Any thoughts?

Welcome to FTE
1978/79 Ford cars & F Series Trucks and Bronco's (NOT Econolines) used a different power steering pump than the earlier models used. The earlier power steering hoses WILL NOT WORK on this pump.
With or without Air Conditioning? What size engine? 351M or 400? Not sure? 4th digit in VIN is the engine code.
H = 351M / S = 400
The P/S gearboxes have always been a PITA. Best bet: Buy a rebuilt one from NAPA.

I had the same problem with the actual box.Kept breaking this and that.In the end i bought a recon Opel Senator box.Its a ZF box and if you want i can take pictures of it and get a part no.
Never had a day's trouble after that.That was 5 years ago.
Hey Monster134,
That would be great if you'd send me the info.I need to do something different.I thought I had everything lined up to go today and the store that sold me the new ps pump trashed the pully on the old pump doing the swap.I'm so discouraged I could cry.There's a big all Ford show at the local drag strip on Sunday that I really wanted to have the truck at but it's not looking good.People up this way just have no interest in or knowledge of these old Fords so it's hard to get things fixed right.I'll add a pic of the truck to my profile if I ever get it out of the garage.
