Tail gate handle replacement
Hi all, opening my tailgate the other day and the plastic handle broke off. Anyone replaced one of these assemblies?
Can just the handle be replaced or will the lock and all parts need replaced as a unit? Thanks, Kevin

you should be able to replace just the handle. All of the mechanism is accesible through the access panel in the inside of the tailgate. There are a couple of nuts that retain the handle, and the lock cylinder comes out of the handle. It is pretty obvious once you get there.

handle replacement
I did one of these recently on my truck, you have to remove the acess panel on the back of the tailgate (read inside) which takes a #35 torx bit, once that is open then you disconnect the two locking rods from the handle. then there are two 7/16? or 10 mm nuts you remove and the lock and handle assy come out the outside of the tailgate. the lock is held in by a little wire clip which the mechanism just slides out when said clip is removed. Reassemble the opposite of the way it came apart, any questions we should be able to help here.
