Power Steering

Hello to all, I'm usually at the Powerstroke Forum, but I have a friend who is having a very hard time locating a power steering gear box for a '75 Bronco 4x4. Apparently this unit is becoming "not available" through the regular parts houses. As I know there is a wealth of experience and information here on FTE, I'm sure somebody here can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for any help.

He will probably need to contact a EB speciality shop like Tom's or Jeff's The boxes are getting quite rare and expensive. I split mine and ended up putting the F-150 box on it due to lower cost and stronger design.

Thanks four4x4fords, was the F-150 box an easy install or did it require a lot of modification? What year Bronco do you have and what year F-150 box did you use? There are boxes to had for a ridiculous price, but my friend is not in a position to spend $1000 for a kit from one of the specialty shops.

It was a fairly simple conversion my 68'. Someone installed a EB P/S box from a later model on my 68 before I owned it, but I don't think there would be any major difference between a 68 or a 75 installation.
I got the bracket from B.C. Broncos to install the box. I had to drill a couple of holes and do a bit of welding to install the bracket. The stock Pittman arm from the Bronco worked fine, but I had to do some work on the steering shaft that was hacked together by a previous "craftsman".
I don't think I had to anything to the hoses to make them fit.

Bracket kit.

Hope this helps.

Have him go to an autowrecker and pull one off of a 70's truck. Thats what we did for my 70 Bronco that didnt come with power steering. We got it out of an F350 with a 460 in it.

Edit: I take that back, we got a power steering pump for my Bronco. But still, check an auto wrecker or see if wild horses 4x4 has anything. I know that they have full power steering setups for EBs.

Hope that helps.

If you choose to change to a F series box, go with the hybrid 2wd/ 4wd box. It is a much better setup than the 2wd box because of the shorter pitman shaft. It will give better steering geometry and won't put as much stress on the frame. Check out BC Broncos for more information.

Are you trying to convert to power steering or find a replacement for an existing power box? It may be cheaper to remove your box and have it sent off to be rebuilt if you can afford to have your Bronco down for a couple of weeks. If there are no damaged hard parts, it may only be $200- 300 to rebuild. If you are looking for a good used box, I would sell the one off of my Bronco. I am having a Saginaw box ported for a steering ram, so I have no need for the current one. PM me if you are interested.
