Let's not turn this into a debate about prop sizes. All I meant was "big enough" in terms of getting planed off fast, AND getting the top speed you want.
I dont know why they arent. I like the SOHC and the DOHC motors. perfer them over OHV or pushrod.
I agree, OHC engines are much more technologically advanced and can have variable valve timing applied much more easily. They also have a tendency to have better emissions and probably make more horsepower for the same displacement as a OHV. That being said, I'm pretty sure GM likes the smallblock OHV because of its size, the actual physical dimensions is much smaller than an OHC thanks to there not being any camshafts on the engine. I assume that they also are cheaper and easier for GM to make.
