3.0 engine question
I have a 2002 3.0 4x4 ranger with the low emmission engine, auto. When I have the a/c on and am going up a hill or accelerating I am starting to get a lifter or rings sound. When I am on a straight road at normal or highway speed, no noise. Also, when I am going up a hill and have the a/c off, no noise. The truck only has 50K miles on it and is serviced regularly. Any help would be helpfull. Does anyone think this there is a coming problem, thanks

Sounds like you might be experiencing what is commonly known as "pinging". Try doing a search on it, and also check out Section V of the 3.0L Tech Thread:
