I live in central florida and lately the temp has been around 98 degrees with a heat index around 110 deg. Around town I cannot use the a/c with fresh air but have to use the recirculating to keep the truck cool. If I use the fresh at full blast it is not keeping up and it is worse sitting at a traffic light. On the hwy, too keep it comfortable I have to keep it full blast as well.
I know diesels run hotter than gas but is anyone experiencing this or is something wrong with my a/c??
If I use the recirculating, then the a/c works fine.
I think you are correct. Coming home from inlaws today, I had to use the recirc. Well with the recirc on at hwy speeds I had it one step from full blast and it was cool but not cold. When I stopped at a rest area and left it idle with wife and kids in truck it started to cool off. Got back on the road and same thing.
Got home and let is sit in idle. I got the digital meat probe and it registered 43 degrees blowing out of vent.
I have had in the past once when the fan kicked on high for no reason and could not turn it off. Got home shut the truck off and everything was fine.
I do every so often get the a/c system just shuts off for about 5 seconds and then comes back on.
Anyone know where this vent door is?/ Is it easy to access it to save me a trip to dealer.
Had a problem with mine not cooling well, blamed it on no tint on front windows, put guages on it was 8 to 9 ounces low from the factory. Quality is job 1, NOT
I don't believe my AC on my truck is up to par either. It doesn't blow air anywhere nearly as cold as my other trucks have, and has to run on high for a long period of time. I haven't had anyone in the back seats, but I'm pretty sure they would've been miserable. I think I may put it in the shop next week for a check-up.
chi6468, I live in NW Florida, and I know exactly what you're talking about with the heat index! It's been brutal! Given that, I think you may have answered your own question without realizing it. With the A/C on recirc, it cools and re-cools the air inside the cab. On fresh, it takes in air from the environment and cools it. So, if it's 110 outside, the fresh setting is trying to get that down as low as possible. Recirc gets it colder because it's re-cooling air inside the cab that may only be 80 degrees. Keep in mind that any A/C system loses cooling ability as the ambient temp outside rises. So a system that will make it snow in your truck when it's 85 degrees outside will be struggling when it's 110.
I'm experiencing the same thing. Down in South Texas the heat index has been over 115* this year and it's only gonna get hotter over the next month. Not to mention the 100% humidity. Recirc is the only thing I can use right now. But when the outside temp is below 85* in the mornin it blows ice cold even on fresh.
Good news is even when towing 15k the trucks temp stays at normal level. So no heat problems as far as the motor goes.
Mine is also the same as mentioned. It is not as cold as my other vehicles. I have thought about having it checked but I'm worried they will screw it up worse...
On a side note, a co-worker has a 05 250 6.0 with about the same a/c performance as we have. I have about decided it's operating within its designed limits. High ambient tempetures and higher humidity levels reduce condenser efficency so I will just monitor mine for awhile.
Mine did the same thing as chi6488, which has happened twice in the last two weeks.
It cuts off for about 5 to 10 seconds and comes back on. And at another time the fan went to HIGH and could not be cut off. In general it seems like the system does not cool as well as my '03.
I took the truck in last week. They replaced an O ring for the compressor and also the EATC control module. Took the family to disney world on saturday. Left around 5 pm and temp was reading around 97. The compressor cycles on and off a lot. I started the truck up when we got to the vehicle and it cooled it down. Got moving and it seemed like it took it forever to keep the cabin cool. Finally after about 30 mins I could turn the fan down showing two bars. I used the recirc function.
Anyone noticed why the compressor cycles on and off so much vs staying on for longer periods so the vehicle can cool down??
Before taking the truck in with recirc on and blowing one step from full blast it could not cool the truck at all...

If I am not mistaken, there are 2 reasons an A/C compressor will cycle. A high pressure and low pressure cutout switch. High pressure to protect against over pressurization and the low pressure to keep the system from freezing up. Also, if the system gets low on freon it will cause the low pressure switch to cycle the compressor (to prevent freeze up). The lower the freon level the faster the compressor will cycle until it does not have enough pressure to allow it to engage.
I have not worked on vehicles for a living since 1991 when I enlisted in the Air Force so consider me no expert. Hope this helps.
I took mine to the dealer last week, warm air is coming out. I was told by the tech that the high pressure hose of the A/C was rubbing to a part of the exhaust causing it to broke. They replaced and rerouted the hose. He said that it was on the TSB. I'm not sure if it's true. Anyway, A/C is now fixed and blowing cold air.
not to start another thread, mine goes in tomorrow, only dif is i have no cab heat, blows cold all the time, maybe we should trade trucks, plus she starting to surge when i start her up, glad i have my reliable 04, their going to be tied for shop time now, the only dif is

Well, driving around today doing home inspections with a/c on and I had to stop kind of quick at a light. The fan stops blowing. I proceeded to my last inspection and never turned the truck off. Got to dealer and had service advisor and service mgr come look at my truck. It was in idle, eatc was lit up but no fan blowing. Told him to shut the truck off and turn back on. A/C fan started blowing again. Explained to him that truck blows cold air in idle but cool air while moving. He said the head unit was bad. I have to take truck back once a part for my door is delivered and said I can live with a/c like it is now b/s I do not plan on taking any trips. Driving around town and having to stop at lights the a/c works great. It is when I am moving it does not do a good job.
When I take the truck in next time, I will suggest what " bords" said about the TSB.
Anyone know what the head unit does for an a/c system??
