more power

Hi all got a 91 f-150 with a STOCK 302,auto,4wd, short box, 3.55 gears. I so far have gotten a 5-speed and all the goodies to convert. 4 inch rancho lift, and a new set of 4.88 gears. any hints to make more power. I havent't put all these goodies on yet, I'd like to do it all a once. I don't mind spending money but not as much as they want for a supercharger. Not looking for a hot rod, just something that will pull the boat, bike trailer etc. Also the engine runs great with no problems. thanks for any hints.

Well the norm is 4:10 for 33"-35 tires in my area "mountainous " (what looks nice with 4" lift ) So the 4:88 will liven up the truck and with 5 sd you can put rpms any where you want them. Good luckI had same truck in 89 form new.

Long tube headers, dual exhaust and high flow cats, and a k&n drop in filter will open up that stock 302.

My question would be why the lift and those gears??? The lift seems useless especially considering your use (towing the boat) and you would probably be better off with stock tires and stock gears.

As far as power, in addition to what has already been said I would say a MAS conversion (may be NEEDED anyways), e-fan conversion, power steering removal (removal of fan + power steering makes a big difference), aluminum driveline conversion (if you don't already have them) and MSD ingnition.

1 Exhaust, cam, computer chip, fuel delivery.

Hooker Pro Comp are nice, Thermal coating, inside and out. They use the newer band clamp for pipe connections, this way you don't have do deal with the triangle flange connections, that seam to leak.

Im going to try hedman elite. what attracts me is extra thick flange, standard thermal coating as well as thicker tubing than most (14 gauge). I think they come in two styles stock replacments (shortys -emissions compatible) and longer tubes (non-emission no O2) shortys arent worth much gain I hear.

As far as performance is concerned, they aren't worth the box they come in. I'd only use them if clearance was an issue... which is not the case in a full sized pickup.

Tube heaters have a weld bead that makes the seal against the heads. If this does not contact the head the gasket will blow out. The bead is used to increase surface pressure to the heads. Went through several gaskets till I figured what was happening. Then I welded a secondary bead to prevent blowout. I have yet to see a tube header that does not use this configuration. Even though a heavy flange ground flat should seal just like the factory manifold.

I only use long tube headers. If you have a eec it requries a input form the O2 sensor. With it just hanging loose (connected or not) you will loose performace.
