Pretty annoyed at this thing right now. Picking up something from the repair shop and putting it into the bed of the truck. (2007 screw - bought in late February). As I am closing the tailgate it it fails to close, and seems to drop down from it's normal spot. I've read the posts on there about the tailgates getting stuck on items in the bed and popping out of where they are mounted and thought that may be what happened - but it's not that. The actual point where the tailgate mounts into the bed of the truck (at the bottom) has broken on the right (passenger) side. It's a cheap crappy piece of plastic. It appears to have cracked, and the weight of the gate being down as I loaded up must have popped it out of line.
Is this common? I ride a 4-wheeler and see people loading their 4-wheeler in the bed of trucks all the time - that's 800 pounds of wheeler plus 200+ pounds of rider. I use a trailer, but after seeing this I'd never consider loading up with the ramps on the tailgate.
Very disappointed and disgusted. In trying to put it back on the paint ended up getting all scratched to ***** on the body of the truck. It was 102 degrees outside and the blasted thing was so hot I could barely hold it. Had to go into Sears and buy a set of allan wrenches to take the damn thing off, as I didn't trust it to stay on there while going 20 miles up the highway.
I've never had a problem with my motorcycle getting loaded into the bed on either my 05 or my 07.....Take it to the dealer....and make them fix the paint too...
thanks. they did help me get the tailgate back on. not sure how the hell it came off in the first place. also showed me the easier way to get the cables detached w/out having to unscrew them.
as for the paint - i took the screwing there. it was said that this is not a 'warrantable item' and that to fix the paint, since they would have to paint the whole side of the truck and the tailgate, the quote was 840. unfriggin real. so i just had it touched up, but that won't last long. i'm going to try another dealer, but i don't expect any luck. more than a little pissed at this thing right now.
