MAP clicking?
My 86 f150 302 efi has recently had a new motor put in it and the MAP ( I think, it is located on the riders side fender ) is always clicking when the idle changes even if you cant tell that it rose or lowered the MAP will click. My truck has a tachometer in it so I can watch how steady the idle is and when it moves even 50 rpms it will click. I am just wondering if it is supposed to click or if it is malfunctioning. Also the truck will sometimes die when you start it. If it doesnt die it will idle up to about 1700 rpms and then rapidly come down to about 500 and then back up to 1900 rpms. I dont known if these problems are related or not so any feedback is appreciated.

I don't know about the MAF problem, but i had a truck that idled like you are speeking of. I changed o2 sensors and did everything i could think of for about a year. Then i finally pulled intake off and it had blown out the gasket on the rear where i couldn't see it. Threw a new gasket in and away i went.

Clean your Idle air bypass the deal with the diamond shaped mounting bracket on the TB MAke sure you keep the solenoid end up and spray out the valve area with carb cleaner put some rtv on it and antisieze on the threads(you will be doing it again) and bolt her back up. That should smooth idle issues! Now the clicking! If you are talking about the little solenoid deal on the fender inner, that should click when ever the throttle lever is moved That is normal unless it spazzes out or it is clicking without input on the TL. Someone might have turned up your throttle hard stop to make up for the Idle air controller going out of whack. Your truck should barely idle 500 rpm or so with the IAC disconnected. If not let us know you will need to adjust it!!
