Wireing Problem?
I have a 1979 f100 custom ranger and the other day it wouldnt start up so i replaced the battery. the battery was in and hooked up right for about five min and i tryed to start it and it still wouldnt start. i noticed after trying several times there was a soft pop and the battery lights turned off. now i think the problem could be the wireing from the battery to the starter. Or just the shot wireing in general. if anyone has information they would like to share that would be awsome. Thanks so much and i am open to all options and ways to fix this problem.
p.s there is a little metal opject that all the wires run in to this is next to the battery is it possible that this "transformer object" need to be replaced.
I will try to get pictures of the wiring up soon.
Ahh the joys of electrical problems...I bet that little pop was a fuse and the little metal object all the wires run in to next to the battery may be your starter solenoid. I have a 73/77 Frankenford (bits and pieces of everything). Did you check to see if your battery was bad before you replaced it? Did the engine crank (starter engage) at all with the new battree in? With my Frankenford, I have to be extra careful with the wiring. I have the heater fan switch jumped, the horn jumped, and even have the dimmer switch rigged. To switch from high to low, I would have to stop, pull the pigtail I curretly have in it from the low side and put it in the high side. Some day I'll pick up a new switch, but until then...

Sometimes users don't explain thing specific enough to know exactly what is going on
People say it wont start when they actually mean the starter/engine won't crank.
You mention the "Transformer" ..I beleive you mean the "Starter relay" or "Starter Solenoid".
This is the device that cause the starter to crank with full power from the battery and to also deliver 12 volts to the coil while the starter is cranking.
This is the part you speak of ..correct ?

Please be more specific ..in cranking vs starting.
Does the engine even try to start and run ?
Are there mice in you area that could have chewed the wiring harness ?
Was there smoke from wire burning at any time ?
