I bought a new EBP sensor and tube and am attempting to change them out. What I thought would be a 30 minute job tops is now a little over an hour and it has me completely frustrated.
I have the old sensor and tube out. I have the new tube in and the bottom nut just started onto the manifold fitting. For the life of me I cannot get the top nut to start onto the bracket fitting. I am turning it the right direction (CCW from the top view) but cannot get it to go. It keeps feeling like it's there and we are set and then it pops off again.
Yeah that was a pain on my truck too when I installed the Termy HPOS. I think I managed to wedge a screwdriver up under to hold it in place as I tightened it down. Took a lot of patience and just the right combination of swear words.
Sitting here in the A/C for a little bit and drinking some water before I go back out there for the next round. It's 98* here right now with about 80% humidity. I know you know how Houston weather is.
It's hotter than Hades out there right now.
Maybe I should go and grab my neighbor and see if he might be able to help somehow.
after being frustrated it does a lot of good just to sit down for a few then try again and most of the time all go's well..good luck....i want to put my sensor back in as well..been out for a while..i have a fooler in there right now..may i ask where you got the tube and sensor and how much?? thanks alot..
Does anyone know what is behind the bracket that is bolted to the HPOP? Thinking it might be easier to pull the bracket off and get it started. My neighbor cannot get it started either and he's a pretty good wrencher.
Ok, she's back together. You guys will not believe what all happened. After I replied to Pocket I went back outside and tried a few different things and still could not get it to go on. I am sweating my butt off and cussing pretty good when all of the sudden off in the distance I hear this little kid let out a blood curdling scream and she is crying "someone help me, help me, heeeeelp me!". I look around I cannot see anyone but I still hear her screaming so I walk to the end of the driveway and then I spot her. This little girl, about 8 years old, is way up in the top of this pin oak tree. I mean way, way, way up there. She is in a tree on the next road down from my house. I wave at her and she screams for me to help her. I grab my cell out of my truck and start running over that way while dialing 911. I tell them to send the fire department out and they show up in about 2 minutes. One of them climbs up the tree and they tie her to the tree while the guys on the ground call for a ladder truck from Conroe (next town over, 10 miles away). The ladder truck shows up and they rescue the little girl but not before the Channel 11 news helicopter from Houston shows up and puts the whole deal on live TV. Yes, live TV! My daughter comes out of the house to say that she is watching me on TV at that moment as I stayed and stood in the middle of the street while they brought her down.
Rescue complete, back to the truck.
I grab my neighbor and we go and he tries to get it started. No luck. We tried from the top first, bottom first, screwdriver trick and lots of cuss words. Finally I say, "screw it let's pull the bracket off". We do and get the piece out and right away I see what the problem is. The threads on the bracket nipple are completely galled. Wiped out. I got my tap and die set and chased the threads (they are not pipe threads, they are 1/2"- 20) and we tried the tube on and presto, goes right on. Replaced the bracket onto the motor, threaded the tube on top first, did the bottom, installed the new sensor and we are done.
It's looks as though someone had this off before me and when they reassembled they cross threaded the nut. I will order a new bracket tomorrow to have for just in case.
Anyway, sorry for the long post but I figured that you guys wouldn't believe what happended with a 30 minute job.
In case you are wondering, my original tube is completely plugged. Can't even blow through it.
Congrats on helping the girl out of the tree. Good to hear you got it back together. I'm going to try to remove the tube on mine Sunday, I hope I can get it off without destroying it, highly unlikely though, as it's extremely rusty at the manifold. Dealer gets $51 and change for one here.
All I did was call the fire department and try to calm her down before they got there. The firefighters did an AWESOME job. My dad is a firefighter so I am kind of partial to them anyway but they really were good.

Sound like a Hero to me. Who knows how long she would have been stuck up there.
I'll check out Powerstrokeshop.com for the tube. Thank you.
