EATC problems?

EATC problems?
I've read a lot about the blend door going out, and I am wondering if that is my problem.
I have a 02 expedition EB. I live in west texas where the heat is always about 100. when i put it on automatic or max ac, the air only wants to come of of the defroster...I have to set the temperature to 82, push auto, then vent, then auto again to get the cool air to come out of the vents, and even then it only comes out for a few minutes, then goes right back to the defroster. the air is cool when it blows out of the defroster, and it swtiches from vent to defroster just fine, its just when it is at max ac or auto it has problems. What does this sound like?
