Building a 5.4 triton....

Hello, im going to be honest with this. Im building a triton engine. well im planning on starting here soon. I want to build one for fun and to see what kind of horse i could get out of it with out mounting a SC. Does anybody have experience or any online sites that i could price and decide exactly what parts im going to get on this block? IM planning on getting it bored out. I really apreciate it. Thanks again

hi, sounds interesting. however 4.6/5.4 performance parts are not as easy to come by. try sean hyland motorsports. they are in michigan i think. they have a lot of mod. motor stuff. i would be interested to find out how it all goes.

Have bulit a 5.4 not very easy and very time consuming task took approx . 40 hrs to assemble short block gaskets expensive to had Elgine cams to grind custom cams for it changed intake and exhaust valve size to bigger ss valves also 3 angle valve job needs to be perfomed and some bowl work in the intake side of the head used Ross pistons got 11:1 comp on it put it in a 97 f150 4x4 got 425hp 450 ftlb torque at 2500 rpm on rear wheel dyno going to build a V10 in few months as soon as we can find one

425 hp at the rear wheel??? You sure not the flywheel? That is incredibly impressive, considering trucks such as the Lightning, which have 380 hp, are dynoed at the flywheel. I must say, those numbers sound quite high, but I would kill to have them! Let us know how the V-10 comes along, that could be a monster.

SVO, I'll be more'n happy do let you do your work in mine!! And I won't even charge you!

BTW, 425hp @ 2500RPM ???? Math dictates that if you are pulling 450lb.ft. @ 2500rpm, yer only making 214.2hp at that same rpm. At what rpm did it make 425hp?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Jan-02 AT 07:24 PM (EST)]its simple really, lots of displacement and lots of compression! can you imagine a 5.4 bored .060 with 14.5: 1 compression!? wow! of course it takes alot of other little things to make these work.

Nathan WHAT are you talking about?? Why would I imagine a 5.4L with 14.5:1 comp. when I could imagine a 3V V10!!

I've heard of a 3-valve head V10 in the works, that's all...Wouldn't it be nice...Three valve head, factory headers, low restriction intake, bumped-up compression (not enough to warrant 89octane or higher, mind you) 375hp 500lb.ft. MMMMmmmmm

I'd love to see one. You are getting into Viper territory with that horsepower and torque and it would be great if Ford took their V10 and treated it as seriously as dodge did their's. Imagine a aluminum block Ford V10 with 3V.

Building a 5.4 triton....

monsta ,
sorry I havent got back before now been busy getting ready for race season 02 there was mistake on the RPMs figures on the 5.4 the actual RPM should of been at 4500 not 2500 when that was wrote we had been up since 3:30 that morning .thanks for keeping me in check .I was responding to the fact about the V10 with 3 valves making 375 hp & 500ft lb torque we have finally aquired one out of a wrecked 99 and dissasembled it and found that the heads are capable of alot bigger valves and person could do alot of port and polish work on them the heads seem to be the achilles heal on the V10 but it would seem ford would need to use 2 exhaust valves and 1 big intake valve but this is strickly and observation on my part but i think with some head work and port and polishing new SS valves the 10 could be capable of 400 hp and 500ft lb of torque andI wish ford would go ahead and do so the chevy people would shut up about the 8.1 liter one more point I would like to make upon teardown of our V10 we noted that the bottom end of the engine is almost bullet proof steel crank ,6 bolt mains and good oiling system I will let every one know when we find out more

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jan-02 AT 01:35 PM (EST)]SVO, great report. I actually read the V10 part over in the V10 forum. I agree, let's hope Ford does some magical head work to the next generation V10 AND make it a bolt in swap for the older ones!! That could geneerate some $$ for 'em. (Although, not as much as they'd make off selling me a new truck.)

I'm envious that you have a V10 the you get to "play" with...

BTW, those are some pretty impressive numbers for the 5.4L. Got proof?

we just built the 5.4 we did not run it on the dyno some one else did, this is about 3rd hand info which I have not had a chance to check out yet there was more things done to the motor than what i mentioned the intake was extrude honed and port matched to the heads the fuel rails and injectors were changed the owner had this done after we put the motor together I will say this the money he spent on this motor he should of had 600 hp or he could of bought a top of the line stroker motor with all bells and whistles

Guess some guys have more $$ than brains. But then again, it's guys like that, who spend the money, take a chance, go against conventional wisdom and discover new and great things!

Keep us posted on the V10. You know that offer to let ya'll work on mine for free still stands...
