Red face A Darkie Dilemma

Well...I have been fighting with the front fenders on my '48. These things had been HEAVILY modified by the PO (widened 4" each, one flared and the other not so much).

I have finally decided to scrap the current front fenders and am heading out to the old truck paradise in Saskatchewan this weekend if it works out for Don (it's only a 8-9hr drive) I have spent more time one one fender and am still not satisfied. Figured that while I'm there I may as well get everything I need at once. I'm really looking forward to the trip.

These mods were done in attempt to make room for the wider chevy 1/2 ton front end (68.5" center to center (rough measurement) on the hubs vs the stock F1 width of 63.8"). Since the truck sits on a '72 Chev chasis I thought I would look into narrowed tubular control arms in an attempt to reduce the width looks like the narrowest I can go would be 1.5" per side and they are pretty spendy even for the plain steel ones. Do you think I can make up the diffrence with a deep offset rim?

Does Don actually have the F-6/7/8 fenders you need? Also bring lots of $$$.

The front hub to hub on a F-1/2/3 is 59". Man 68" is pretty wide considering a 73-79 Ford is only 65".

Well good luck on your quest.

As I had indicated the 68" is just a rough measure. I will be taking the wheels off to confirm the hub to hub dimension. I'm hoping that it is not as bad as I was lead to believe. Once I get some stock width fenders I will have a better idea as to how I will address the issue. I was just checking to see if anyone on here has had to deal with a similar issue in reducing track width.

If you put short A arms and deep offset wheels on they may rub the frame on turns
