ive filled up at the same place since i bought her. the first month or so it ran like a champ. i just read an old post and somebody had a problem similar to mine and they said it was the fan clutch. b.t.w i checked my fan and it was kind of difficult to spin. is that normal???
My wife's 2006 Expedition has been doing the same thing, except the noise is at 1,400 to 1,500 RPM whether at idle or on the road. The noise comes through the cabin and I can feel it through the steering wheel as well.
In fact, I have been trying to figure out where that damn vibration is coming from for months. The front-end tech at the dealership put it on the rack and all components were tight. On the road, the vibration feels very subtle, like a bad wheel bearing. But you can only feel it through the steering wheel and no other parts of the vehicle.
After reading these posts, I tried turning the fan on the Expy and it seemed pretty stiff. Lifted the hood on my '99 F-150 w/5.4 and it was very free compared to the Expy, which is due for an oil change...perfect timing to have them check it out.
Also might add that after idling for a few minutes, the engine RPM climbs to nearly 1,000. Something must be telling the engine the fan needs to turn faster, thus raising engine speed. Gotta be a bad clutch.
