Are there any things that you guys have done to your truck that you regret or that just didnt seem to work out? I have so many things I want to do to my truck and I was wondering what some of the bad experiences other people had.
Chrome Door Handles and Mirrors. Just did not fit the look I was going for. Many on the forum have installed them and love them. Everyone has their personal taste. I removed mine one month agter having them installed.
For me not a regret but for the "wife", well lets just say she doesn't like the EDGE programmer I installed in our '07 F150, 5.4L.
It is now 4sale (the EDGE) but now I am trying to find a mount for a Tranny temp guage, as I will miss monitoring the trans temps during towing.
I also put a Volant intake on my 4.6l and the truck vibrates and is horribly loud at 2000-2800 rpm. Volant says thats the resonation point of the intake. The performance gain isnt worth the vibration/noise IMO. I would upgrade my exhaust and get a good tuner.
I tried Beltech lowering shackles that didn't work out. I tried all different pinion angle shims and couldn't get rid of the vibration. I have an SCab which has a 2 piece driveshaft and from what I hear a small percent of them have this problem. I put it back to stock and now have no vibe.
cutting the rear cats off. you loose a noticable amount of low end torque. had mine reinstalled about a week after i cut them off. (<--- what a dip****)
Dual exhaust from a local shop near me. I lost a lot of low end on my already slow truck and it sounded like crap. Just keep it stock or buy one of the major brands only after you have heard and rode in a truck with the same exhaust. To me a loud exhaust is embarrassing when pulling up to a clients place of business.
for me the edge progammer was a waste. Not so much the performance but the pod is terrible. I like the gauges but it looks like crap and drives me crazy. It has also messed up my interior the pod scratched the plastic. For the performance vs. headaches I would give the edge a thumbs down.
Just keep it stock or buy one of the major brands only after you have heard and rode in a truck with the same exhaust.
this is so true. you cant go cheap when it comes to exhaust. the best sounds and best results are from those brands that have done the r&d and make a product that is not a dissapointment. magnaflow or flomaster are by far the best i have seen and heard on these trucks. i personally run flowmaster but thats just a personal preference.
for me k&n cai,it caused my truck to run lean/tb spacer although i left it on quite a while it became very annoying/also i have a sc flashpaq & flowmaster which i like but through fourm ed. i have found the custom tune/and magnaflow offer better results./06 f150 5.4
I put a Truxxx leveling kit on, and while I really like the new stance, I'm waiting for the ball joints to go prematurely. I've heard of guys with Daystars having them crap out by 15,000 miles. Too much of an angle for the ball joints to handle, I guess.
The EDGE Evolution in my '07 F150 5.4L stays in afterall, wife decided that it Is best to keep using it.
I have found that the EDGE does do what EDGE claims, more HP/improved overall power thru-out the RPM's.
I have had no-problems with the mount on the dash & mine is just sitting up there as I didn't use the velcor, even on rough dirt roads the EDGE POD has not moved a bit.
I did have to return the Volant CAI for my '07 but only b/c I couldn't get it to fit where it was suppose to in the '07 inner fender area.
I added a Flowmaster series 50 single cat-back exhaust too, no regrets.
The only mod I wish I could undo is the aftermarket reverse sensor system I permanentely installed in my bumper. Only if I had known that the damn thing speaks instead of just beeping - there's no way to turn it off. Sounds like a little girl yelling out in meters instead of feet. The image kinda clashes with the whole "driving a truck" thing.
