Hi all... My 98 ranger 3.0 5spd 4wd is having a difficult time starting. When the engine is cold ( for example sitting over night even in 80 degree summer weather) the engine will not fire right away. It always starts just takes longer than normal -sometimes 5-7 seconds. About a year ago i put new plugs and wires, fluids, air filter, etc. in it. When the engine is warm it fires right up. I cannot tell if it is lacking power (doesnt have much to begin with :-( my next step is checking the fuel pressure. if any1 has any input or advice i would greatly appreciate it !
Paw, doesn't KOER mean KeyOnEngineRunning?
Any way, cycle the key as PawPaw said from OFF to RUN, not start. That will put the fuel pump thru several cycles of running, and thus fill & pressurize the fuel rail. If the fuel is leaking back to the gas tank, or leaking out of a drippy injector, there would be none to start the engine right away, and thus the longer crank. Cycling the power will demonstrate whether you are lacking fuel due to one reason or another, or you have a different problem.
