can I put a '97 4.0 OHV into a '00 Explorer with a 4.0 OHV?
I heard the heads are different, wondering if this will cause any problems down the road? Are there any other differences any one can forsee?

the heads on the 97' 4.0L OHV Part #s are AC268C1, and AC268C, as for the 00' 4.0L ohv the part #s are AC268C1 and AC268C so aparently they have the same heads on them. The engine mount part numbers are as follows....

97' 4.0L OHV - FR: 2850, and FL: 2851
00' 4.0L OHV - FR: 2850, and FL: 2851

So these two motors seem to be exactly the same to me. I would do a visual inspection of both motors just to see if the new motor would mount in the vehicle and remember to also get the computer from the other engine and place in your other vehicle along with the wiring harness as the 1997 might not read the same voltages on some of the sensors as the 2000 model but all in all the build of the motor looks to be exactly the same to me after doing some crude research. But dont just jump on it and take my word for it... Like i said i would do a visual inspection first just to make sure that it would bolt up and if it does your home free as long as you take the harness and computer with you for safety.
