Help with a 98 4.0 OHV replacement

Guys, my 98 RANGER 4.0 is on its last leg and I need to replace it. My VIN has the X in the 8th digit so that seems to make it a OHV version. My question is can I put a 4.0 OHV from a 2x4 in it as a replacement? I've read so much about the replacement having to be from another 4x4. However that seems to be mostly about the SOHC motor with the balancer shaft. So, who can tell me what I can and cannot replace my 98 4.0 OHV 4x4 engine with without a bunch of hassle?

Thanks guys!!

4.0 OHVs don't have balance shafts. There is absolutely no difference between one from a 4x4 or a 4x2 truck.
