351W fuel pump lines

I have a stock mechanical fuel pump on my 351W. There are two ports off the pump. The one closest to the radiator is threaded and the other is a nipple pointing toward the driver. Which is inlet and which is outlet (to carb)? Also, will 3/8" fuel line be okay?

The threaded one is normally the output.

The nipple connects to a flexible hose to the fuel line that goes back to the gas tank. The threaded fitting is for a 5/16" fuel line that goes to the carburettor. A 3/8" line uses larger inverse flare nuts so won't fit the stock fuel pump and possibly not the carburettor depending on its connection style.
