Power potential

I was wondering if it might be the intake plenum on the Ford. I mean if you look at most modern intake plenums there is a reservoir for air and then individual runners going to each cylinder. The design of the Ford has no reservoir and then two tubes going to the cylinder heads on each side that splay out to cover the intake holes of the heads. Thats got to limit the power potential I would think. Has any one ever made a custom intake plenum with a large reservoir and individual runners to each cylinder? If they have what kind of power gains were there? Thanks.

Air is not the problem with these engines. It's the fuel. The HEUI injection system really slaps the 7.3 and the 6.0 in the face as far as performance goes. Couple that with a two-valve head on the 7.3, and a relatively weak bottom end, low VE, and it sets us back in the power wars, but we still try.
