Ranger Fever AGAIN...
They were not wanting to give me what I want, so I walked out.
On my way back to the truck, I had to walk by the new Rangers. They have some sharpies!
One that caught my eye was a 2008 (I believe) FX4. 4dr. SuperCab, 4.0L, automatic, A/C, CD, cruise, leather, power everything, towing package, Torsen axle, etc.
MSRP on a 2008 is $25,910. They told me that the X-Plan only brought it down to $24,450.
Now, I realize that this is a 2008 and brand-spankin' new and all, but are they pulling my leg? They came about $6k off of a new F150, and only about $1k on the Ranger. I'm going to have to do some shopping around I believe.
Either way, I believe that a Ranger will do everything I need to do with a truck. Plus, the wifey loved the 2000 Ranger that an old fart t-boned me in last year (see my gallery). So, I figure a 2008 would be something she could easily drive again. I'll be the main driver, but she has to drive every now and then (you know how that goes).
The biggest load I tow is an 801 PowerMaster tractor and 6' bushhog on a 16' trailer. I don't think it tops 6k pounds, but if it does, I don't pull it over 20 miles and I take it easy, so it shouldn't be a problem for the 4.0L. The 2000 Ranger used to pull it just fine, and it only had a 3.55 gear.
Also, I would like to get at least 20mpg. Is this possible with the 4.0L and 4.10 gear?
Thanks for any replies. I'm going to do some more shopping around and see what I can find out. Of course, I'm sure the deals are going to be better on the 2007's.

BTW, is 2008 REALLY the last year for the Ranger?

But, I don't know. I guess we'll just have to wait it out and see for ourselves.
