I've only had this truck for about 2 months now and since day one my cruise control has not worked. The fuse is good and that brake sensor/switch under the master isn't wet. Im grabbing some schematic diagrams to try and figure this out. I here this is common.
has the recall ben done? If it has the new jumper that is installed near the power distribution box is also a fused link. if thats blown you have to replace the whole jumper.
For a quick test/check, just disconnect the connector from the switch, jumper it with a paperclip, and take it for a test drive to see if the cruise now works. If so, the switch is bad. Squirt some oil into the connector, leave it disconnected, then take it to Ford for the recall so you get a new switch for free.
This assumes you're talking about the 99, you didn't say.
best case scenerio would be that your truck will lite up in flames so you can get a new one....like stated abouve check the connector switch, my buddies had same problem and that was a quick fix
When I got my 2000 the cruise control was disconnected inside the engine bay. I took it to the dealer, they put the new jumper that fixes the recall, and now it works.
Ford did a recall a few years ago on the cruise control. But, at the time, they didn't have any replacement parts, so all they did was disable the cruise and tell you to come back later. Many lazy folk didn't come back, and then sold their vehicles without having the free repair done. If that is the case, all you have to do is go to the dealer and have them install the new part, free of charge.
I checked it out and it does have the jumper. I didn't notice the large blue tag that said exactly what Big T 2000 said. the harness does not look damaged and the fuse is not blown. Can i still do the paperclip test or will it bugger something up?
You can do the paperclip on the connector BEFORE the recall harness. If it works, do it on the connector AFTER the harness. If that works also, the switch is bad. If not, the fuse link is open (which is usually not visible).
