is anyone running the stock front brake hose with a 4in suspension lift, i ordered the extended brake lines but they are not going to bolt up like the original ones and I was wondering if I could run the original length hose are do I really need the extended
I am using the stock front brake hose on both of my 77's, one has a 3" lift and the other has a 4" lift, no issues so far. There seems to be quite a bit of "sag" in that hose. I am going to replace the one on my black truck soon, due to age. -Ed
See how much slack is left in your brake line at full suspension droop. If your brake line is too short and your axle goes all the way down, it will rip off your brake line. That is very bad!
What kind of truck?
I have run stock lines on F-250's with very large lifts by simply moving the hard line under the frame instead of through it. All you have to do is remove the bracket, and rotate it upside down, disconnect the rubber line and then reconnect everything under the frame, and bolt it all back up again. Even the clips will go back again. If you are running front springs that are limited on flex, this will be good for over 6 inches.
If you are running some high flex springs like the Super Duty front spring,, or custom springs that provide more than 8 inches of lift, then you will need to run the lines under the frame and buy an over the counter line like the "Skyjacker" part #FBL93 SS brake lines. This kit comes with everything.
I have the skyjacker 4" lift kit, I think I will get a stock hose and look at it, I know when I took all the stuff off the frame the front hose was very tight even with a stock ride height, so someone must have installed the wrong hose, I hope I can make it work because if I use the aftermarket extended hose I will have to butcher my right side hard line to make it line up with the hole in the axle housing if you know what I mean
