Hi all
My father in law just took in his '03 f550 dump because he blew off a turbo hose.. Ever since they replaced it , when he takes his foot off the accelerator, he gets what he thinks is massive bacfiring. I heard this from a distance and it was a very strange noise not like I would associate with a common backfire. There was also a puff of black from the exhaust. He had it at the dealer today and got it back again with the same racket. Has anyone seen this prob before? Any clue would be appreciated.. Thanks
[QUOTE=rollerstud98]watch this video, when he gets to the top of the sand hill and lets off the throttle, is that the noise you hear from father in laws truck?
Check TSB 04-18-6 at top of this page under full text TSB. I'm wondering if when hose blew off it chaffed the engine wiring harness.
I checked to tsb bigred and it looks like a viable option. I wonder why the techs didn't find something like that....unless there wasn't a tech on board at the time. I'm not sure if any codes came up either..do you think they would show? You guys are an extreme wealth of info here and I appreciate all the posts.....I read em all like clockwork ! I should have searched a bit here for the answer, but i'm a newbie and just starting to find my way around.. I'll keep in touch with the old guy and get back to you....He wouldn,t be near this site as he is a bow tie man lol. He drives these trucks for his nephew who at least knows what a work truck looks like...he runs a fleet of fords from f150 to f550 in his interlock stone business. Sorry to ramble but I just love my f550 if only used for hauling wood and feelin like a billy big rig .lmao
Thanks a bunch
That is a "turbo fart", its normal and I cant believe hes never had it before. Basically boost pressure has no place to go when you let off the throttle so it goes back out the turbo and out the air filter. I wouldnt recomend he sets around and tries to make it do it but mine does it all the time.

If he blew a CAC tube off and now has "turbo fart" it sounds like the turbo vanes are sticking and causing an over boost situation. Have a qualifed 6.0 tech test the VGT for proper operation.

I'll third the sticky veins scenario!!! The jeep does it because he is boosting pretty good with a lower engine rpm and then lets off. Under normal driving you will not reach boost levels high enough and engine RPM low enough to Turbo fart unless you have the sticky veins!!! Then again I could be wrong but I had one that had this problem and that is what I observed.
