A rather quick question. While showing off today my truck left two black marks on the pavement. My axle codes says it is a 3.73LS. Why two marks? I notice it always does this no matter if i back up or move forward before Showing off. I am just curious if there could be a problem with my LS. I do hear a whining noise in the rear end when cornering at low speeds. Any suggestions or opinions. My only concern is winter driving. It is rather squirly around corners in the winter without 4X4 on. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I had that whining/cornering issue. Change your axle grease asap if you have never done so. At 100K, the rec interval, mine was horrifying. They had to basically scrape the gunk out of there. Much of it was no longer what you would call a liquid..
If i recall correctly I changed the rear diff fluid with 80W90 approx 20,000 miles ago. I noticed the whining before and after the fluid change and just wrote it off as normal for the factory LS. Maybe there is more going on with it than i suspect with it leaving two skid marks and all. Maybe i should try a synthetic soon.
If your limited slip rearend doesn't leave two black marks, then something's wrong with it. An open differential (non-limited slip) will spin just one tire.
My 99 L/S 3.55 differential specifies 80W90 WITH, 4 oz of friction modifier C8AZ-19B546-A, or one meeting Ford specification, EST-M2C118-A, when refilling the differential, so did you remember to add the friction modifier cddz ????
With a limited slip differential, both rear wheels will try to lock up, when spinning the rear wheels.
No I did not, kindof a bone head thing to miss. Iwill climb under there soon to replace it again, I will go synthetic and add the modifier while in there, Thank you for the input.
are you running the 8.8 rear ? if so theres just some weird things about them my rear is a l/s but for some reason it wont lock up unless theres weight in my bed. i am personally taken the 8.8 outta my old stang and should solve my prob .. as for your i guess just be glad it works ??
The stock lsd suck, I swapped mine out for a detroit tru-trac, it's gear driven, needs no modifires and grabs like a bear. There are no clutch packs to wear out, has great street manors, it bites each time and every time. That stock trac-lok just wasn't doing it for me, I wheel alot.
