5.4 vs. 4.6

I want to make it clear that I am not in the market for a new truck now and these questions are purely for interest sake. First, why doesn't Ford offer a manual transmission with the 5.4 in the F150? Second, how does a 5.4 w/ auto compare power-wise to a 4.6 w/ manual? And third, do the autos with 5.4s seem to be holding up pretty well?

Good question, Ford didn't ever offer a 5.8L with a manual in the previous F-150's. It possibly has something to do with how they would sale.

AS far as power goes, I honestly think the 4.6L is a little faster off the line with a manual than a 5.4L with a auto.

Ford offered the E40d and a revised E40d-called the 4R100. From what I can tell, and know, no one is having a problem with any yet.

5.4 vs. 4.6

I found a great looking F-150 XLT the has a 4.6L. Do you think I should get it or get a stock F-150 XLT with a 5.4L?? I have heard that if you put a Holley Thunder supercharger on a 97'-00' F-150 the horsepower would be 30 over a stock Lightning. So whats your opinion??? The Fast or the one that looks REALLY fast but has a 4.6L???

You can e-mail me at wadegotleid@netscape.net if you want to.

New Lightning HP is at 380....the F-150 with stock 5.4L Triton is rated at 260 HP, and the best superchargers add max 100 HP, typically more like 80-90 HP, so you're looking at max, very max with just supercharger 360, which is what the 2000 Lightnings are rated at, and now 2001/2 is at 380. I feel Eaton is the best supercharger out there (which the lightning uses). But the Lightning uses more than just a supercharger, so I don't see how you could get close to it with just the supercharger. Plus mose Lightning owners add stuff on after the fact to boost even more HP such as Airaid kits, new chips, etc, and many have their trucks at or above 400 HP.

5.4 vs. 4.6

I have a 97 f150 with a 4.6 in it. The engine is getting old and I am thinking about putting a replacement engine in it. My question is this, will a 5.4 fit in instead of a 4.6? Any suggestions on where to locate replacement engines?

5.4 vs. 4.6

I believe the 5.4 will fit. The two are basicly the same; looking at the specs it seems that the only difference is in the crankshaft (longer stroke), and the cam (higher lift).

However, these days there are so many variations in controls, etc., that you take a major chance of a problem if you don't do things exactly the same. I certainly would not do this without the help of someone who has successfully done it before.
