I may have bitten off more than my '97 F150 5.4L SC with towing package can chew. I just bought a 30ft, 6500lb travel trailer. We love this Lariat F150 and would rather spend money to increase towing performance than trade for another truck (it only has 40K miles).
So what are the best upgrades that will work well together? I read some about the Banks PowerPak, Superchip and DiabloSport chips. Oh, and I gave up twisting wrenches long ago, so a local tuner will be doing the work.
Saw that your message was old. What have you done or found. Sounds like you were about at your wet weight limits. we have a 27 footer that is about 4900 dry with a lot of weight added to it. I had a 2000 with out the towing package and didn't have any problems. I did notice that pulling at 70 mph the torque converter wanted to stay in non-lockup mode for a long time but at 65 it didn't do that. I guess it really started feeling that wind resistance at that speed. I haven't tried to pull it yet with my 2002.
