no spark at coil

here goes ,for some reason my aerostar has eating a few rotors ,dont know if i have a problem with my distributer or a bad or wrong cap ,well this is what usually happens ,my rotor just breaks off the end and i loose spark this has happened 3 times ,once after a tune up at the local shop ,that one lasted a day then this past one lasted a month ,the just breaks ,so carry a spare ,but now im not getting any spark changed cap coil and rotot ,heres the ? is it possiable that i shorted something out ,and can i check for 12 volts at the plug that goes into the coil ,and if no power there where to go from there is there a relay or other fuse to check ,where does the other end of the plug go to from the coil , thanks for any help in advance

See if the shaft that the rotor sits on is loose. That can allow the rotor to flop around and hit the peripheral terminals.

I'm not sure what could have burned out from the terminals shorting out. I know that the TFI module that drives the coil is a little delicate, and can be destroyed by the heat in the engine compartment.

hall effect pickup in distributor is probably broken from rotor pieces

woukld thatmake me not have spark from the coil ,did the old screwdriver in the plug wire trick from the coil and had no spark ,and do all i have to do is mark the distributer and rotor spot before i take it out

Smile no spark,

well guys thanks for the help ,seems it was the module in the distibuter from the broken pieces,still got that code 12 for the air bag though ,

Just so you know, trying to replace that PIP is a pain in the rear. You may as well get a rebuilt distributor, that way you aren't taking any chances.
