Unhappy Bronco with no spark

87 Ford Bronco new battery, plugs, cap and rotor, ignition module, coil, ignition lock cylinder. Pulled coil wire and checked for spark. Upon cranking, no spark appeared until I let go of the key. Anyone have any ideas??

Coil

I'm suspicious of the coil, up to the point where you said you backed off the switch and got spark. Makes me think the switch contacts aren't lining up correctly or seated properly. Can you give more detail on the history of the switch etc?

Replaces the switch cylinder (where the key fits)

There's a second wire that should have power in the start position, I'll have look it up tomorrow to give you the specific color.

Thumbs down would this work?

Would a computer from a 1990 Bronco II XLT with a 2.9 liter v6 engine, automatic transmission, A/C, cruise, power windows and locks work in my 87 B II EB equiped the same way?

Not seamlessly. A couple of differences I'm readily aware of: '87 uses an EGR system; '90 doesn't. '87 A4LD has vacuum modulated 3-4 shift, '90 A4LD has an computer controlled 3-4 shift. There might be some other subtle differences. Unless it's something you feel you have to make work, I would suggest getting the correct computer.

Also, check the pickup coil... it's inside the dizzy there and is what the module plugs into. I've had a couple go bad on my 85.
